Desktop Publisher The Desktop Publisher must be able to format typescript and graphic elements using computer software to produce publication-ready material. Creates PowerPoint slides for the classroom and virtual classroom delivery in accordance with the established style guidelines. Using Microsoft Word, apply established templates and paragraph formatting to raw text or text that may not be formatted properly. Checks for typographical errors, clarity of graphics, and overall professional layout of class materials. Checks preliminary and final proofs for errors and makes any necessary corrections. Ensures accuracy and professional presentation of all graphics (classroom presentation) and printed materials. Operates desktop publishing software and equipment to design, layout, and produce camera-ready copy. View and monitors for visual representation of work in progress and for instructions and feedback throughout process, making modifications as necessary. Responsible for file management of all copies of course publications on paper, tape, film, or electronic versions. Create conceptual graphical illustrations to depict subject matter and flow of information. These may include finding and formatting photos or using drawing elements commonly found in Word or PowerPoint. Use knowledge of various type styles, size, and layout patterns. The Desktop Publisher edits graphics and photos using pixel or bitmap editing, airbrushing, masking, or image retouching. All these things are part of the publishing programs available to the Desktop Publisher. The Desktop Publisher imports text and art elements such as electronic clip-art or electronic files from photographs that have been scanned or produced with a digital camera, using computer software. In this manner the Desktop Publisher prepares sample layouts for approval, using computer software. The Desktop Publisher often studies the layouts or other design instructions to determine work to be done and sequence of operations. When the time is right the Desktop Publisher converts various types of files for printing or for the internet, using computer software. The Desktop Publisher must enter data, such as coordinates of images and color specifications, into system to retouch and make color corrections. The Desktop Publisher must select the number of colors and determine color separations. The way color affects an article is critical in the reading of the article. Not only is it important that the print can be seen through the coloration but the colors make viewing the article much more pleasant to the readers eye. In the final steps the Desktop Publisher transmits, delivers or mails publication master to printer for production into film and plates. The Desktop Printer collaborates with graphic artists, editors, and writers to produce master copies according to design specifications.
