Pariah S. Why DJL Was Created

Design Jobs Live! was created by Pariah S. Burke (me). It began as a service not only by me but also for me. As someone who is not only a creative pro software author, consultant, trainer, and fan, but also a freelance graphic and Web designer, I need to keep up with the latest news and information about creative professional freelance and contractor.

But that information is published across hundreds of sites, by hundreds of writers, every week. I just don't have the time to visit every site and check for new articles. I built Design Jobs Live! ("DJL") to collect and categorize all that information for me. I could then get all the information I need in one place, categorized according to the top creative pro applications I use every day. In other words: DJL prevents the critical information I need from slipping through the cracks.

During the summer of 2008 it occurred to me that the rest of the creative professional community could also benefit from the unique service of Design Jobs Live!. So here it is! I put a nice frontend on Design Jobs Live! and opened it to the public. It went into public beta 25 August 2008, and has been improving daily since then. It hit version 2.0 12 February 2009.

Although DJL may appear at first blush to be fully automated, it isn't. I'm here every single day. Every publication and guru you find on DJL is handpicked. If I'm not adding or refining a new feature, tweaking the code, checking for broken links, or adding new gurus and publications, I'm reading the latest articles and tutorials right alongside the thousands of readers like you who follow on DesignJobsLive.com, Twitter.com, or by e-mail and RSS.
